The most important aspect of competing is finding a training plan that works for you and can help you perform at your best. The time to make gains is during the off season, when you aren't focused on staying rested for races. During a Biathletes off season (April-November), we improve our cardiovascular capacity by roller skiing, road biking, and a lot of running. we also have specific camps to focus on our shooting accuracy, fitting of our rifle and shooting with a heart rate to mock races.
During the summer months I train about 50 hours a month (525 hours in the entire year)
Through the Canadian sports school, I have seen my strength and power improve. It has also been helpful in helping me get all my school work done because of the amount of classes I miss due to out of town competitions. The coaches provide me with a strength program customized to myself and my sport.
